DEVELOP Students in Washington, D.C. for NASA Earth Science Applications Showcase
On July 30th and 31st, NASA Ames DEVELOP Program participants attended and presented their work at the Annual Earth Science Application Showcase (AESAS) at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This year, 169 students completed 38 web application projects working at 14 locations with 84 project partners. DEVELOP students at NASA Ames were mentored by Dr. Juan Torres-Perez and Chase Mueller, both of BAER Institute, and Dr. Sherry Palacios of NASA-ARC. The student research teams used NASA remote sensing data to investigate dead zones in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the link between wildfire and snowpack in the Sierra Nevada, and water availability and drought in the Navajo Nation territory. Dr. Mike Freilich, Director of the Earth Science Division, Lawrence A. Friedl, Director of Applied Sciences, Dr. Nancy Searby, Capacity Building Program Manager, and Debi Tomek, Chief of Staff hosted the opening and closing events.
